Four of family die in Hoshiarpur crash

HOSHIARPUR : Four members of a family, including a four-year old child, belonging to Bassi Gjulam Hussain village, were killed and three injured when the Maruti (PB-10-AE- 0727) they were driving, rammed into a tree on the Tanda road, 25km from here on Sunday.

The family was returning from Tanda after paying obeisance at a religious place.

The driver reportedly lost balance of the car near Sikri while overtaking a trolley and rammed it into a tree along the road.

Three occupants of the car, who died on the spot were identified as Gurdip Singh, 38, his wife Kuldip Kaur, 37, and his brother Amrik Singh, 55. Gurdip's 4-year-old daughter Ishika succumbed to her injuries in the civil hospital.

While the injured, Jaswinder Kaur, 40, and two minors Mannat and Gunika are admitted in the hospital.

Deceased Gurdip was a painter by profession.

A pall of gloom descended in the village when the tragic news arrived.

The bodies have been kept in the civil hospital mortuary where a post mortem will be conducted on Monday.

Bulhowal station house officer( additional) Akshpad Gautam said no case is made out as the driver has died in the mishap.

“The survivors are not in a position to tell anything but eye witnesses said the car was overspeedi­ng”, he said.
