FATEHGARH CHURIAN (BATALA) : A 40-year-old widow was mauled to death by a group of stray dogs here this morning.

According to information, the victim, Rani Devi, a resident of the railway road area, was working as a domestic help and in the morning, when she was coming back from a market, a group of stray dogs attacked her near the railway line.

She tried to run away, but the dogs chased her and attacked her near the railway track and mauled her to death.

Later in the afternoon, residents living near the railway track noticed pieces of flesh of a human being and blood lying all along the track and informed the police.

During search, the police recovered her body in the bushes.

A case under Section 174 CRPC (police to inquire and report on suicide, attack by animal etc) has been registered in this regard at Fatehgarh Churrian police station.

It is to be noted that incidents of stray dogs attacking residents are increasing day by day.

Many non-governmental organisations (NGOS) have submitted memorandums to the local administration demanding steps to check the menace, but to no avail.

Demanding a drive to sterilise stray dogs, the local residents said that the administration should take adequate steps to overcome this problem, otherwise the number of victims might increase in the coming months.
