- Neeraj Mohan

Karnal:breaking his silence over the increasing and rape and murder cases in Haryana, chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Saturday said that the state will bring a law for awarding death penalty to those found guilty of raping girls below the age of 12.

The chief minister, however, did not clarify whether the government will also change the law to increase punishment for juvenile accused in rape cases

He said that the state government will also request the Centre to set up of fast-track courts for dealing with rape cases so that speedy justice can be ensured.

Expressing anguish over the recent incidents of rape in the state, the CM said that though the police was dealing with such cases as required under the law, it had been decided to make a provision for harsher punishment for rape.

Speaking about the “fake rape cases” in the state, Khattar said, “The media should not create sensation by publishing reports on rape incidents without verifying facts.”

“As per last year’s figures, at least 25% rape cases registered with the police were later found to false. Earlier, complainants used to have a tough time getting FIRS registered but today not even a single person can claim non-registration of FIRS,” the CM.
