Nuh residents form ‘vigilante group’ to check cow slaughter
GURGAON: Some residents of Mewat, in Nuh district, under the banner of Mewat Vikas Sabha (MVS), have formed a committee that would act as a vigilante group to stop cow slaughter and beef sale in the area.
The residents of various communities held a panchayat on Sunday and set up a committee to stop people from indulging in cow smuggling, slaughter and sale of beef in the district which “brings bad name to the residents”.
Members of the Hindu and Muslim communities were a part of the panchayat. Ramzan Choudhary, ex-president of MVS, said, “The panchayat and the administration have asked sarpanchs of every village to keep tab on cow smuggling and slaughter.”
The panchayat has authorised the core committee to talk to the people indulging in cow smuggling and slaughter, and recommend bring them to the attention of the police for penal action.
The committee will visit every mohalla to make aware people of the decision, mainly in interior areas of the district where cow slaughter continues despite statewide ban. The committee has 100 members of different religions and social groups etc.
“Members of the core committee will hold a fortnightly meeting with district administration officers and the panchayat,” Aftab Ahmed, former transport minister with the Haryana government, said. Surnder Deswal, district president of BJP, Nuh, said, “The core committee will work to create a healthy atmosphere in the villages.”
