Thieves take away ATM in Manesar

GURGAON: Thieves took away an automated teller machine (ATM) of a nationalis­ed bank from a kiosk in village Koh of Manesar on the intervenin­g night of Friday and Saturday, police said.

This is the fifth such incident in Gurgaon since January. The first case of ATM theft from Gurgaon was reported on January 22, then the next day, another on January 28 and then on January 31.

The incident took place a day after the state government declared Manesar the new police district to strengthen the law and order situation in the area, and provide better governance to the people of Gurgaon.

The ATM kiosk in question did not have a CCTV camera, nor was a security guard posted there, police said, adding that the exact time of the incident is not known.

The bank is yet to give details of the amount of money the ATM had at the time of theft.

Police said that most ATM kiosks in rural Gurgaon do not have an security measures in place to safeguard ATMS.

A case in this regard was registered at the Manesar police station under Section 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the IPC on Saturday. The police have initiated investigat­ion into the incident. “Our figure print experts and dog squad went to the spot with a team of police officials. We have collected evidences which will be further examined,” said Ravinder Kumar, PRO, Gurgaon police.
