COPS ARE FALLING PREY TO DISEASES SUCH AS DIABETES, HEPATITIS C, HYPERTENSION DUE TO HIGH STRESS LEVEL, SAYS IG ARPIT SHUKLA

JALANDHAR:LEARNING lessons from the death of the Jaitu DSP Baljinder Singh Sandhu, who died of a bullet allegedly fired from his own pistol, the Punjab Police have decided to hold stress management workshops at district levels.

Inaugurating a workshop here at the Red Cross Bhawan here, inspector general of police, Jalandhar zone, Arpit Shukla, said in a bid to ensure better stress management among cops for enhancing their efficiency to meet any sort of challenge during duty, it was the need of the hour to organise such workshops for de-stressing the cops, who face numerous challenges every day.

“This was very shocking that a brave Punjab cop shot himself dead and he even didn’t care for his family before taking this step. To control such a situation in future, cops will have to remain stress-free on duty,” the IG said in his address.

He said regular medical studies have revealed that Punjab cops were falling prey to fatal diseases like hepatitis C, hypertension, diabetes and others due to the high stress level. So, he said the need of the hour was to maintain mental equilibrium by living a quality life by making certain changes in lifestyle. Hailing the step taken by SSP GS Bhullar, the IGP said this idea will be replicated in all the districts.

He said one hour must be spared for exercise to give good health and another half-an-hour for reading a good book daily along with a healthy meal and drug-free life. DGP Jaskaran Singh batted for striking out a balance between the family and the professional life.
