The suggestion by Haryana politician­s to affiliate some colleges from the state with Panjab University, Chandigarh, is highly deplorable. There are already several unresolved interstate issues between Punjab and Haryana. This will only complicate their already strained relation further. I don’t think there is any financial crunch since the university has held five senate meetings since September involving enormous expenditur­e. Theunivers­ity needs to cut downon such expenditur­es to improve its financial health. Akhtar Mahmood,

Chandigarh new investor has turned up to India, the border dispute with China remains as bitter and employment graph has gone down. Also, the prices of essential commoditie­s are skyrocketi­ng, The Goods and Service Tax (GST) and demonetisa­tion proved to be disaster for the common man, government-sponsored saving schemes are being changed every month making them less attractive and the middle-class is bearing the brunt of non-performing assets (NPAS).

DS Thukral, Ambala a private company founded by technology evangelist Elon Musk, is exploring solutions when the earth’s population reaches 10 billion. Such experiment­ations will explore the possibilit­y of transporta­tion of heavier goods at low costs and encourage the private companies to invest in future space missions. The next logical step will be exploring an interplane­tary economy. The possibilit­y of human habitation beyond our earth can even soon become a reality.
