GURGAON : The state committee, which was set up to probe the February 9 incident where a 25-year-old woman was forced to deliver a baby girl at the door of the emergency ward of the Civil Hospital after being allegedly denied admission, will submit its report on Wednesday.

It was alleged that the woman was turned away by the hospital authorities after failing to produce an Aadhaar card.

The incident evoked concern and turned the spotlight yet again on the every day plight of patients trying avail of medical service at government hospitals.

The two-member committee, which gathered information about the incident from the hospital authorities and the patient’s family, will hand it its report to state health minister Anil Vij on Wednesday.

Taking cognisance of the incident, the state health department issued a notice to all hospitals on February 11, stating, “Aadhaar card is not required to avail of any medical service in Haryana. A person can submit any ID proof at a government hospital.”

After the woman went into labour and delivered a baby outside the hospital’s emergency ward, an inquiry panel was constituted and a doctor and a nurse were suspended by the Civil Hospital on the basis of a preliminary investigation.

“We provided all relevant information to the investigating committee. The CCTV footage was also provided as evidence in this case. Statements of our doctors and staff nurses were also recorded,” Dr Pradeep Sharma, principal medical officer (PMO), Gurgaon Civil Hospital, said.

The woman had to suffer acute labour pain for two hours outside the hospital’s emergency ward before she delivered a bay girl, her husband Bablu said earlier. As the woman did not have any ultrasound report on her pregnancy, a doctor at the hospital had asked her to take an USG test. However, before she could go in for the test, she was allegedly asked to produce her Aadhaar card.

The admission was allegedly delayed as she couldn’t produce the document.
