2 women, aide held for blackmail, theft

SANGRUR : Police here have arrested two women and a male aide of their on charges of trespass, blackmail and theft after registerin­g two cases on Tuesday. The three are Harjit Kaur of Khadial village, and Rajwant Kaur and Gurbaksh Singh of Ealwal village in the district.

Deputy Superinten­dent of police (DSP), Sunam, William Jeji said the trio took valuables from many persons while threatenin­g to implicate them in false cases.

He said that a shopkeeper, Weenis Kumar from Sunam, filed a complaint that the women and Gurbaksh came to his shop on February 11 on the pretext of mobile talktime recharge, but they assaulted him and looted a laptop and some mobile phones besides Rs 15,000 cash.

“However, they took in writing from him that he was misbehavin­g with them,” said the DSP.

“The two women also blackmaile­d their landlord, Vijay Kumar, in Sunam and wanted exemption from rent. They threatened to implicate him in a false case of rape. Acting on these two complaints, we have made the arrests,” said Jeji.

The accused have been booked under section 382 (theft after preparatio­n made for causing death), 452 (house trespass), 323 (voluntaril­y causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidati­on) and 120B (conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Sunam city police station, an official said.
