Despite arrest warrants, police release Vipassana after 5 hrs

DRAMATIC APPEARANCE IN SIRSA Cops grilled her, but are mum on why she was let off; Panchkula police that had got warrants issued sends team to Sirsa; no clarity on arrest

SIRSA:TWO months after she went into hiding and the Panchkula Police got an arrest warrant issued against Vipassana Insan, the administrator of Dera Sacha Sauda, on December 2, she made a dramatic appearance before a special investigation team (SIT) of the Sirsa police on Wednesday about 1.30pm.

The Sirsa SIT, that DSP Ajay Sharma heads, however, released her after a five-hour questioning. This despite the fact that the arrest warrants had also been served in the dera.

“She was called for further investigation in the August 25 Panchkula violence case,” said the DSP. On why she was allowed to leave and not arrested, he was evasive, but said, “We had informed the

Panchkula police.”

Previously, the Sirsa and the Panchkula Police had also

launched a joint hunt for her.

On Wednesday’s appearance, sources in the SIT said recently, they had visited the dera to search for Vipassana and had asked the management to tell her to ‘join investigation’.

Now, reliable sources said Vipassana had reached back inside the dera. SP Simardeep Singh did not respond to repeated calls.

Panchkula DCP Manbir Singh said that a team was sent soon after Sirsa SP informed about Vipassana’s appearance, but he was evasive on the question of her immediate arrest.

“She is wanted by us for her role in inciting violence in Panchkula. We will take action,” he said.

“Talk to the Panchkula Police, they are investigating the case,” said Haryana DGP BS Sandhu when asked on the lack of clarity over Vipassana’s arrest.
