KARNAL : Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar will ride a bike, twice, from his constituency, Karnal, to Jind to enthuse party workers for the BJP national president Amit Shah’s rally in the district on Thursday.

After flagging off the convoy of 1,111 motorcycles from Karnal on Thursday, he will join them for a few km. The distance between Karnal and Jind is around 85km. On Wednesday too, he rode a bike, after taking stock of preparations for the rally.

“After flagging off the convoy of bikers from Karnal on Thursday morning, the chief minister will ride a bike for a few kilometres to energise party workers. Later, he will drive 25-km to the rally venue from Alewa village in Jind,” said Jagmohan Anand, Karnal district president of the BJP. “This will be a historic rally as over 1 lakh people from all 90 assembly segments will reach Jind on bikes. Riding a bike is not a new experience for me. I used to drive a motorcycle

regularly, when I was a Pracharak with the RSS,” Khattar said.

On whether the government’s decision to accept demands of the Jats will dent the image of the party, the chief minister said, “It will not have any negative impact.”

Though no senior BJP officebearer is willing to speak on the

need for the rally, a leader, on the condition of anonymity, said, “Jind is considered the political centre of Haryana. Shah will get to feel the pulse of voters, if elections are advanced.”

“The decision to turn it into a bike rally was taken to give importance to workers. Leaders and workers will travel together and bond well.”
