Farmer booked for disrobing, thrashing 5 kids in Amritsar
The case registered after a video of the incident goes viral on Facebook and Whatsapp on Tuesday night and enraged the people of area
AMRITSAR: The district police have booked a farmer, Ashurbanpal Singh alias Latti, of Sohian Kalan village, 7 kms from here, for allegedly disrobing and thrashing five baptised Sikh children, who had plucked some radishes and turnips from his field on Sunday.
The case was registered after a video of the incident went viral on Facebook and Whatsapp on Tuesday night and enraged the people.
The video recorded by a villager showed the five baptised Sikh children being allegedly disrobed, thrashed and humiliated by the farmer.
One of the children in the video said, “The farmer disrobed and thrashed us and humiliated us in the village. He made us run for around 4 kms towards Bal village while he chased us on a scooter.”
Another child said, “We were chasing a kite and we reached the field of Latti as the kite fell there. When we reached there, he held us and disrobed us besides slapping on our bare body.”
The video, which got 2,234 shares and thousands of comments till Wednesday, has enraged the people. They are demanding a strict action against the farmer.
Pal Kaur, grandmother of one of the children, said, “Kids were just chasing a kite and reached the field of Latti inadvertently where they uprooted some radishes. But Latti punished them inhumanly by disrobing them. If Latti considered it a crime, he should have complained to us or the police, instead of punishing harshly,” Kaur said. “Strict action should be taken against Latti,” she said.
“On Tuesday, we went to Latti’s house to get our kids’ clothes. He gave us the clothes saying that he wanted to teach them a lesson so that they do not repeat the act again.”
Latti’s father SS Gill, said, “The kids have been plucking radishes and turnips daily from our field. When Latti objected, they started teasing Latti, due to which he taught them a lesson.”
Majitha station house officer (SHO) Mohit Kumar said on the complaint of father of one of the children, Ranjit Singh, the case has been registered under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint) 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 295 A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion) of the IPC.
