GURGAON: The state’s first cyber crime police station will become operational from next week in Gurgaon after the state government issued a notification in this regard on Tuesday. The cyber crime police station will act as a centralised monitoring station for all kinds of online and technology-related frauds, and it will have dedicated resources for investigating such crimes.

Gurgaon police commissioner Sandeep Khirwar said the recommendation for setting up a cyber crime police station was made as the number of online frauds is rising, and there is a need to have a dedicated team to solve and prevent such crimes.

“The cyber crime police station will function under the crime branch and experienced officers who have knowledge of technology will be posted there. Also, cyber crime experts from outside will also be roped in to prevent and investigate such crimes. The cyber crime police station will be made operational by next week,” Khirwar said.

The Haryana government had on Tuesday notified the setting up of a dedicated cyber crime police station in the city.

The setting up of a cyber crime police station would mean more manpower, equipment, vehicles and machines, which the city police presently lack.

The city police is handicapped by the shortage of staff in every department.
