Cop injured as gangster opens fire at police team

TARNTARAN: The district police on Friday evening held an alleged notorious gangster, Jaspal Singh aka Pala of Khadoor Sahib and his aide, whose identity is yet to be disclosed, from near the Harike Pattan police station. During the arrest operation, one policeman Shubhpal Singh also suffered two bullet injuries. He is undergoing treatment at Guru Nanak Dev hospital in Tarn Taran .

Sources said the crime investigat­ion agency (CIA) wing of police received a tip-off that Pala, with his aide, was in the Naushehra Pannua area. Soon after knowing about Pala, the CIA wing launched an operation to arrest them.

The police started chasing the duo from Naushehra Pannua towards the Harike side. When the duo reached near the Harike police station, they tried to arrest them but one of them opened fire and Shubhpal Singh suffered injuries in his stomach and on his hand. Sources said Pala was also wanted by police.
