- HT Correspondent

ROHTAK: The Rohtak police on Wednesday said they have arrested two 19-year-old youths, one of whom is a prime accused in the double murder of two friends who were hacked to death at Gadoli, Gurgaon, in December last year.

The murder accused has been identified as Gautam alias Golu while the other youth is Shubham alias Atul. The duo has been arrested after an encounter on Tuesday night.

The police said they had got a tip-off that two armed youths were riding a motorcycle in the city and could commit robbery. A barricade was set near Suncity area and the youths coming from Bohar village side late night were asked to stop. However, on seeing the police, they tried to take a U-turn and their bike skidded off the road.

After they fell down, the youth riding pillion fired at cops. The police said they retaliated by firing in air, chased the two and overpower them. Two pistols and some cartridges were recovered from the youths.

The police said the duo had been involved in many criminal incidents for the past many years.

Gautam and his accomplices had in 2016 murdered a man in Gurgaon, for which he was arrested and sent to Faridabad jail. He escaped the prison in October same year, following which he committed several incidents of loot and dacoity.

In December 2017, he and his accomplices hacked two youths to death in Gadoli, set their bodies on fire with petrol, and buried them at a deserted location over a petty fight.
