RISE ABOVE POLITICS OF HATRED

-

The pulling down of statues of Communist icon Vladimir Lenin in Tripura and at other places is unfortunate. Those indulging in such vandalism must remember that lawlessness can demolish these statues, but not the ideas. In a democratic set up, political parties come and go, but they must not take the fight to this level. Even otherwise, Lenin was an influential figure for many Indian patriots and revolutionaries. The last thing Bhagat Singh was reading before his execution was Lenin’s autobiography. When summoned by a jail official, he said, “Wait, a revolutionary is having a word with another revolutionary.” Mahatma Gandhi had also described the Russian Revolution as the “greatest event of the present century.” Our leaders must rise above the politics of hate.

Hargunpreet Singh, Patiala the state to work towards “securing the income” of its farmers rather than harping on funds on the plea of being instrumental in maintaining the country’s food security, says a lot. It is sad that Punjab’s contribution to the country made at the cost of the state’s own interest is going unrewarded and unappreciated. The ‘Granary of India’ has fallen from grace. Instead of crying over spilt milk, the state government must work towards forming a comprehensive agriculture and water policies. The focus must be on diversification and conservation of water. Schools, NGOS and panchayats can help in creating awareness among villagers about saving water. The opposition must also support the government. Every Punjabi must work hard and contribute to restore the state’s glory.
