DJ arrested for playing loud music

KAPURTHALA :The police arrested a disc jockey (DJ) and seized his system for playing loud music in a residentia­l area of the town on Sunday evening.

A case under Sections 3 and 4 of the Noise Pollution Act, 2000, has been registered against Lakhvir Singh, a resident of Nurpur Lubana village. This is the first case registered by Kapurthala police under the Noise Pollution Act this year so far.

Due to board exams, deputy commission­er Mohammad Tayyab had issued instructio­ns to take action against people playing loud music.

Lakhvir was playing music at a function in the PWD Colony of the town at 4.30pm without seeking permission. His DJ system, including speakers, grills, lights and have been seized.

“We received a complaint that students were getting disturbed due to loud music being played in the area,” said station house officer Gabbar Singh.

Lakhvir was later released on bail.
