KERALA POLICE BOOK CARDINAL IN LAND DEAL CASE

-

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala police on Monday registered a case against Major Archbishop of the Syro-malabar church cardinal George Alancherry in connection with a series of land deals that reportedly resulted in financial loss to the Ernakulam-angamally archdiocese. Last week, the Kerala HC observed that prima facie evidence indicated criminal conspiracy, breach of trust and misappropriation of money in land deals involving the Cardinal, senior most priest of the country, and directed the police to book him. While hearing the plea, the court pulled him up for pointing out that as far as the Cardinal was concerned the appellate authority was the Pope. The Cardinal was arraigned as the first accused and three others were also charged.
