J&K cop cremated with state honours

JAMMU: The mortal remains of selection grade constable Deepak Thusoo, who was martyred fighting militants in the Kashmir valley on Wednesday, were consigned to flames in Nagrota on the outskirts of Jammu with full state honours on Thursday.

Deepak, originally from Karihama village of Kupwara district, was the only bread earner of Thusoo family. His father Darki Nath had also served in the state police.

His family, including wife, two minor children and widow mother, was presently residing in the Jagti Township of Nagrota.

State BJP president Sat Sharma, senior National Conference leader and local MLA Devender Singh Rana, along with the senior officers from the administra­tion and police also paid their last tributes to the departed soul.

People from the neighbouri­ng areas after paying tribute to the martyr raised anti-pak slogans and demanded for a tough action against Pak. They termed Deepak as a real “hero” and hailed him for making the community proud across the

country with his sacrifice.

KANGRA MARTYR’S BODY REACHES NATIVE VILLAGE

DHARAMSHAL­A: Body of havildar Joradar Singh, who was among five personnel killed in Kupwara encounter, reached his native village, Rait, in Kangra on Thursday. The cremation will take place on Friday morning. Singh was posted with 160 Infantry Battalion of territoria­l army and transferre­d to J&K in December last year. Singh is survived by his parents, wife and three children.
