THE ROT IN EDUCATION SYSTEM

-

The Kothari Education Report (1964-66) which observed that ‘India’s destiny is being shaped in its classrooms’ enshrined a grand vision for the country’s education system. But alas, the vision remains a mere rhetoric even as several decades have elapsed since. Who is to blame for this — the teaching fraternity or the political class? The answer, sadly, is both. The present-day academic milieu presents a dismal picture. The result is that they end up by churning out crammers and not creators.
