Haryana going bankrupt, says Hooda

- HT Correspondent

ROHTAK : Former Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Friday alleged the state was going bankrupt under the BJP government even as it had not spent funds on any significant project.

While addressing a press conference at his residence here, Hooda said the state was currently under a debt of Rs 1.61 lakh crore, which was more than double of Rs 60,000 crore at which he had left in 2014.

“Since the formation of state in 1966 to the end of our regime in 2014, the debt was Rs 60,000 crore. But within three years of this government, the debt has more than doubled to Rs 1.61 lakh crore. This has happened even when this government has not opened any new major educational institute or medical college, power station or metro project. This BJP promised of crediting Rs 15 lakh in every citizen’s account. But it has instead put every Haryana citizen under a debt of Rs 60,000 each,” Hooda said.

He said the budget presented by the government was extremely regressive and allocated nothing for sportspersons and unemployed.

“They should apologise to people and resign from the government,” he said.

The former CM attacked the government over the alleged deteriorating law and order situation in state. He said no day passed in Haryana when there was no news of murder, gangrape, loot or dacoity.

Hooda said farmers in the state were under distress as the government was not procuring their crops.

He said the BJP was not running a government but rather an event management company.
