HOSHIARPUR : In an alleged gang war, two persons were shot at by the rival group on Tuesday night in the city's Gautam Nagar area. The victims received bullets in their leg and were admitted to the civil hospital.

The city police have registered an attempt to murder case against Robin Jindal of Improvement Trust Scheme No 2 whose father Harinderjit Singh alias Pappu Gujjar was killed by the rival gang in 2011. Three others namely Saurav Jindal alias Kaka Gujjar, Sampat and Sukhi have also been named in the first information report (FIR). All the accused are absconding.

Amritpal Singh, a resident of Subhash Nagar, who is also called JB, Sanjay Sharma of Dashmesh Nagar, Dalbir Singh of Bassi Ghulam Hussain and Karanjit Singh of Roop Nagar were roaming in a Ford Figo in the city when the assailants opened fire at them.

“We were near street number two in Gautam Nagar, when a Toyota Fortuner forced us to stop. We were blinded by the fog lights. In the meantime, another white car which could be an i10 or Alto, stopped by and its four occupants fired indiscriminately at us. They were also armed with weapons,” said Amritpal.

He claimed that the mastermind behind the attack was Pappu Gujjar's son Binny Gujjar, who is in Ludhiana jail. SSP J Elanchazhian confirmed that it was the fallout of an old rivalry between both the groups
