Nanak Shah Fakir: Takht jathedar left redfaced
The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) was not the only one to give clearance to controversial movie ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’ before doing a U-turn on the issue. Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh also gave a clean chit to it by lauding the efforts of film producer Harinder Singh Sikka in 2016. Now, when the SGPC has withdrawn the clearance and also written to the Centre and the state government seeking ban on the movie, the jathedar has been left embarrassed. As the SGPC has endorsed the objections raised by Sikh organisations, the head of highest temporal seat of the Sikhs is finding it difficult to clarify his stand. During the SGPC budget session, he had to face questions from opposition members on the issue, but he kept quiet. Mum’s the word so far! of the Muktsar municipal council triggered a controversy last week. The councillor alleged that they were suspended on the directions of Congress MLA from Gidderbaha and All India Youth Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring. Karan Kaur Brar, former Congress MLA from Muktsar, said she would take up the matter with chief minister Captain Amrinder Singh and Congress president Rahul Gandhi. However, Raja Warring denied having anything to do with their suspension. “I am neither aware of the matter nor do I indulge in such politics,” he said. But allegations and counter-allegations are continuing among the Congress leaders. All within the party!
