50yearold vendor murdered in Batala

BATALA : A 50-year-old vendor of clothes was reportedly murdered by some unidentifi­ed persons with sharp- edged weapons on the Aliwal road here on Tuesday evening.

The incident took place near the Kahlon petrol pump here in the presence of dozens of eyewitness­es, but none of them came to the rescue of the victim.

According to informatio­n, the victim, Ashok Kumar, a resident of the Bhandari Gate area, was working as a vendor and used to sell clothes on a bicycle in nearby villages.

the evening, when he was coming back on his bicycle, some unidentifi­ed people, who carried sharpedged weapons, stopped him outside the Kahlon petrol pump and started assaulting him.

The accused kept on assaulting him till he fell unconsciou­s and, after confirming that he had died, they left the spot.

After getting informatio­n, a police team rushed to the spot and took the injured to the civil hospital here, where he was declared ‘brought dead’.

Investigat­ion officer, ASI Kulwinder Singh said that on the statement of the deceased’s son, Pankaj, the police have registered a case under Section 302 (murder) IPC against unidentifi­ed people.

“Right now, we can’t tell about the cause behind the murder as the accused didn’t take away cash and mobile from the victim. We are investigat­ing the case from various angles and, on the basis of informatio­n provided by eyewitness­es, we are going to prepare a sketch of the accused,” he added.
