Minor alleges police inaction

AMRITSAR:A 16-year-old Dalit girl of Jethunangal village alleged here on Wednesday that the Majitha police of the district are not taking action on her complaint of ‘molestation’ by a boy of the village. The girl, who is a student of Class 10, said a boy of her village has been teasing and molesting her for a few weeks.

She said after being irritated from the accused, she lodged a complaint with the Majitha police on April 10. But, instead of taking action against the accused, the Majitha police, led by sub-inspector (SI) Mohit Kumar, started harassing her family.

She said after her complaint, the SI took her father to the police station. “Later, my father was released with the interference of some leaders of the Pendu Majdoor Union,” she said.

The girl alleged that the SI again called her parents to the police station on Monday for a compromise with the accused. She said, “The police put pressure on my family to say sorry to the accused,” she added.

Sub-inspector Mohit Kumar, however, refuted the charge of ‘police inaction’ and said they had got a complaint against the girl’s father before April 10. “The girl’s father had used abusive language against a woman of the village,” he said and added that they had called him to the police station for this case. Later, she filed a complaint, which seems ‘false’.
