Truck-lifters’ gang busted, six arrested in Gurdaspur

POLICE SAY 15 CASES HAVE BEEN REGISTERED IN PUNJAB AND OTHER STATES AGAINST MEMBERS OF THIS GANG FOR STEALING TRUCKS

GURDASPUR : The district police claimed to have busted a 7-member gang of truck lifters with the arrest of six of its members with three stolen trucks.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, senior superinten­dent of police (SSP) HS Bhullar said that, on Monday, the police arrested six thieves from different places in the district.

The accused have been identified as Gurcharan Singh alias Channa alias Major, Dharminder Singh alias Hira and Gurjant Singh, all residents of Sarhali Khurd under police station Patti in Tarn Taran district; Jagtar Singh alias Jagga of Sangha village under Sadar police station, Tarn Taran, Sucha Masih of Talwandi Virk under the Tibber police station in Gurdaspur district and Malkit Singh alias Vicky of Sarna under the Kanwan police station in Pathankot district while the seventh member of the gang Ranjit Singh alias Jaj,who has also been declared a proclaimed offender in a case, of Sarhali in Tarn Taran district, was yet to be arrested.

Bhullar said that the police recovered three stolen trucks, including a six-tyre truck (PB 06 G 4562) and two 10-tyre trucks (PB 06 N 2744 and PB 13 A K 0616), from them.

Bhullar said they used to steal trucks and sell them to customers by changing their number plates or to the junk dealers, who dismatled them and sold their parts at cheaper rates.

Bhullar said that 15 cases have been registered in Punjab and other states against members of this gang for stealing trucks and under the NDPS Act and other crimes, including a bank robbery, in Uttar Pradesh in 2006.
