ASARAM: BLIND FAITH NEVER PAYS

-

The punishment of jail until death to Asaram is a reaffirmation that all are equal before the law. The rise of such Babas reflects the hold that blind faith has in the country. Such vandals, in the guise of saints, play with the sentiments of their followers. Thanks to them, we have had the emergence of a new business, of faith and god men. As a society, we need to be vigilant and proactive in fighting these men. Crime in the name of god needs to be dealt with strictly. For now, the punishment sends a strong message to others of his ilk. Harpreet Sandhu,

Ludhiana strengthens our faith in the judiciary. Unfortunately, politicians provide patronage to them for votes. This nexus is unlikely to unravel as long as we have 70% ‘illiteracy’, poverty, and unemployment. Education and employment to gullible underprivileged devotees is the answer. Why don’t our blind followers realise that if these ‘Babas and Swamis’ had super powers, why should they allow 30 crore Indians to sleep hungry every day? If they can produce miracles, why can’t they build houses for the homeless, or forecast natural calamities? By all means, have faith, follow your religion, and be God-fearing. Be real.

Colonel RD Singh (retd), and people’s faith. It’s time the government demolishes all illegal Deras that thrive on superstitions. Ranbir Singh Pannu,

Amritsar society. We need to have an apolitical discussion to tackle this alienation. Sumanta Ghosh,

Panchkula
