QUESTION PERTAINED TO AN INSULTING REFERENCE TO A COMMUNITY; CHIEF EXAMINER SET TO FACE ACTION

CHANDIGARH : The Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC), on Saturday, apologised and decided to withdraw question number 75 in the written examination held on April 10, 2018 for the post of junior engineer (civil), category number 28 (morning session).

The question pertained to an insulting reference to a community and a girl belonging to it. The same had whipped up protests in some parts of the state with many organisations complaining against it and demanding police case against the HSSC.

They said that the question was not only insulting to the community, but was in bad taste to vitiate social harmony.

A spokesman of the commission said that the questions in the question papers were never gone through, read over or checked by anyone in the commission and was opened by the candidates only for the first time in examination hall.

After the mater came to the notice of the commission, the chief examiner regretted it. However, yet appropriate action was being initiated against him, he added.
