AMRITSAR AIRPORT TOP IN PASSENGER GROWTH

AMRITSAR:THE Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee Internatio­nal (SGRDJI) airport has emerged number one in domestic and internatio­nal passenger traffic growth among all 34 internatio­nal airports of the country, shows the data at the website of the Airport Authoritie­s of India (AAI).

According to the data, 23.2 lakh domestic and internatio­nal passengers travelled through this airport during the 2017-18 financial year, an increase of more than 48.1% over the last year’s traffic of 15.7 lakh.yogesh Kamra, an aviation analyst and additional secretary of the Amritsar Vikas Manch, said, “This phenomenal growth in domestic and internatio­nal passenger traffic is a clear indicator of the airport’s future potential.”

He said the airport is likely to handle more than 30 lakh passengers during 2018-19, going by the current growth in passenger traffic.kamra said that connectivi­ty of the airport to the western world has not yet been facilitate­d by the Union government due to hindrances in bilateral air service agreements.
