AMRITSAR AIRPORT TOP IN PASSENGER GROWTH
AMRITSAR:THE Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International (SGRDJI) airport has emerged number one in domestic and international passenger traffic growth among all 34 international airports of the country, shows the data at the website of the Airport Authorities of India (AAI).
According to the data, 23.2 lakh domestic and international passengers travelled through this airport during the 2017-18 financial year, an increase of more than 48.1% over the last year’s traffic of 15.7 lakh.yogesh Kamra, an aviation analyst and additional secretary of the Amritsar Vikas Manch, said, “This phenomenal growth in domestic and international passenger traffic is a clear indicator of the airport’s future potential.”
He said the airport is likely to handle more than 30 lakh passengers during 2018-19, going by the current growth in passenger traffic.kamra said that connectivity of the airport to the western world has not yet been facilitated by the Union government due to hindrances in bilateral air service agreements.
