GURUGRAM: A man strangled his pregnant wife with a cable wire in a private colony in Bhondsi on Friday night.

Ajeet Kumar, the accused, who surrendered himself to the police, told them that relations between him and wife had soured, and they fought frequently because he suspected her of infidelity.

A case of murder was registered against Kumar under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Bhondsi police station.

The police said that Kumar had married Sandhya two years ago, and they lived together in a rented accommodation in Marutikunj colony. She was seven months’ pregnant.

This was Sandhya’s second marriage. She had married Kumar’s older brother a few years ago. After his death, she married Kumar, with the approval of family elders.

The family originally hails from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh and has been living in Gurugram for the past few years.

The accused told the police that soon after the wedding, their relationship deteriorated because he suspected that his wife was in touch with other men.

On Friday night, both Kumar and Sandhya went to sleep in their room. Kumar woke up around midnight and noticed that Sandhya was not in bed. After a while, he saw her return from the rooftop.

This infuriated him and both of them got into a heated argument, which turned into a scuffle. An angry Kumar then strangled Sandhya with a cable wire, leading to her death.

Later, he surrendered to the police and was taken into custody.

A case in this regard was registered at the Bhondsi police station on the complaint of Yogender, the brother of the deceased.

“A case has been registered and the matter is being probed,” said Ravinder Kumar, PRO, Gurugram police.
