DC asks agencies to expedite lifting of wheat
JALANDHAR: In the wake of inclement weather conditions, deputy commissioner (DC) Varinder Kumar Sharma has asked all the procurement agencies to expedite the lifting of wheat from the mandis besides taking necessary steps to ensure that not even a single procured grain was damaged. Presiding over a meeting here at his residence, the DC expressed concern over the weather conditions prevailing in the district.
“Though more than 80% of the grains procured in the district have been lifted but efforts must be made to lift the remaining grains swiftly. All efforts must also be made to store the procured grains at a safe place in the mandis, so that no damage was caused to it,” said Sharma.
He said the officers must visit the mandis and ensure elaborate arrangements to protect the grains. “During the ongoing rabi season, five lakhs metric ton wheat was expected in the district but due to bumper harvest, the district has already crossed this target,” the DC added. The official informed that until now, the administration has procured 5,21,137 metric ton of the wheat.
