Group clash in Kapurthala jail, 4 booked
KAPURTHALA:FOUR inmates were booked on Saturday after a clash, that took place between two groups at the modern jail here on Monday last. The incident came to light after the Kotwali police booked the inmates on the recommendation of the jail staff on Saturday.
As per the first information report (FIR), a prisoner, Binni Gujjar, was brought on challan from the Ludhiana jail at 5pm on May 7. After this, some inmates including Ranjeet Singh, Manpreet and others attacked members of another group. The Ranjeet Singh group also allegedly misbehaved with head warden Sakatar Singh, the FIR states.
Jail superintendent Surinderpal Khanna said that after information of a scuffle, a team, led by assistant superintendent of jail Paramjeet Singh rushed to the spot and controlled the situation. “No inmate was injured in the scuffle. However, I recommended a case against four inmates for using criminal force to deter public servant from discharging of his duty,” the SP said. The accused have been identified as Ranjeet Singh, Manpreet Singh, Kamaljeet Singh and Gopal Singh.
A case under sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from duty), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and relevant sections of the Jails Act has been registered against them.
