Takht seeks arrest of man for speaking against Sikh guru

AMRITSAR : The Akal Takht, the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs, and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), expressed anger on Wednesday over a viral video, in which a man, who claimed himself Narayan Das, is seen uttering remarks against the fifth guru of Sikhs, Guru Arjan Dev Ji, and demanded his arrest for hurting Sikh sentiments.

In a press statement, Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh said, “In the video, Narayan Das said that Guru Arjan Dev Ji fabricated Bhagat Bani to add it in Sri Guru Granth Sahib (the Sikh holy book). The Sikh Sangat is very much annoyed over the video, which has hurt the sentiments of Sikh devotees.”

He said the Sikh Sangat will not tolerate this blasphemou­s act of the ‘fake monk’.

The jathedar said Narayan Das should immediatel­y be sent behind bar for hurting religious sentiments of the Sikh Sangat. He also warned the government to take strict action against the fake monk. He also ordered SGPC president, Gobind Singh Longowal, and all Sikh societies to get Narayan booked under Section 295 A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the IPC.

In a separate press release, Longowal, also demanded the arrest of Narayan Das for uttering blasphemou­s words. He said the comment of Narayan Das has hurt the sentiments of the Sikh Sangat.
