MBBS student robbed of new car in Amritsar

AMRITSAR : Three men robbed a Honda City car of an MBBS student after firing shots in Ranjit Avenue here on Tuesday night.

In his complaint submitted to the police, Shivam Luthra, who is pursuing MBBS from Government Medical College here , said he, along with his cousin Sumedh Luthra, friends Abhishek and Yogesh Sharma were on their way back to the college in his new Honda City on Tuesday night.

“Around 10 pm, when we reached near the power house of Ranjit Avenue, a Maruti Baleno hit my car from behind. When I stopped the car, three men alighted from their car and attempted to snatch keys of my car from me,” Shivam said.

When I resisted, one of the accused fired shots in the air. Out of fear, we alighted from our car after which the accused took my car and drove away, ” he said.

Shivam added that there were two mobile phones and a wallet containing ₹ 3,000 in the car.

Sub-inspector (SI) Amanjot Kaur said a case under Section 379 B (snatching and use of force) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Sections 25,27,54,59 of the Arms Act had been registered against the unidentifi­ed accused.

“We are examining the footage of the CCTV cameras installed in and around the area where the car was looted to know the identity of the accused,” Kaur said.
