ROHTAK: A 25-year-old married woman who was upset at getting lewd calls from three men allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling at her house in Ahmedpur village of Sonepat district, police said.

The incident occurred on Monday night when the woman was alone at her house.

When her husband reached home, he found her hanging and a suicide note written in a copy placed on the bed. In her suicide note, the woman wrote that three men had been calling her for some days and making lewd comments at her.

She claimed that she called up the women helpline number 1091 to complain about the men, but the police did not offer any satisfactory help.

“I told them about my problem. A day later, I got a call from investigation officer Anil to whom I narrated the entire matter of getting lewd calls. The policeman asked me to come to the police station and give a written complaint or he will come to my house. I said this was not possible and requested him to do something from his side and ask the three men to stop troubling me. I also gave the three numbers to the policeman, but he said he can’t do anything like this,” the suicide note left by the woman reads.

Victim’s husband said she killed herself after being troubled by the three men.

“I had gone out for some work. When I reached home, I found her hanging from the ceiling. I called my relatives and police, who sent the body for postmortem,” he said.

Based on her husband’s complaint, the police have booked the three men, reportedly identified as Pawan, Abhishek and Rahul, on charges of abetment to suicide and harassment of the victim.

Sonepat sadar police station in-charge Dalbir Singh said they were investigating into the matter.

The police will also look into the role of the policeman who allegedly did not help the victim when she called up at the women helpline.
