GORY CRIME IN AMRITSAR 17 stab wounds found on victim’s body

AMRITSAR : A 20-year-old boy stabbed his stepmother to death in Sathiala village, 47 km from the district headquarte­rs here on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Kulwant Kaur 42, while the accused is her stepson, Maninder Singh. He allegedly stabbed her around 17 times.

Investigat­ion officer sub-inspector (SI) of Beas police station Sukhdev Singh said in 2001, Satnam Singh of Sathiala village married Kulwant after the death of his first wife.

He said Satnam already had two sons—maninder Singh and Sawinder Singh.

“After one year of their marriage, Kulwant gave birth to a son, Anmol Singh,” he said, and added that since then, the family had been living together.

“Three months ago, both the brothers returned to the village and had been living in Satnam’s old house separately, which is also in the same village,” said the officer.

He said both the brothers had been demanding from their father the registrati­on of their old house in their name, but Satnam had been refusing to do so. He said both the brothers suspected that their stepmother was as a hurdle and asking their father not to register the house in their name. “

On Wednesday morning, when Kulwant was alone at home, Maninder barged into the house and stabbed her 17 times before she was dead,” he said.

Soon after getting informatio­n, he, along with other police personnel, reached the spot and began investigat­ion.

“The body of the victim has been sent to Amritsar civil hospital for postmortem,” he said and added that a case under section 302 (murder) has been registered against Maninder, who along with his brother is absconding.

“The role of Sawinder is also being examined. He will also be booked in the case for conspiracy,” he said.
