State vigilance dept books Bathinda MC clerk in DA case

BATHINDA: The Punjab Vigilance Bureau has booked a clerk, Ravinder Singh Walia, with the Bathinda municipal corporatio­n for amassing wealth, disproport­ionate to his known sources of income, by allegedly misusing his official position.

A vigilance official said that for the period under review (2011-2016), Ravinder Singh spent ₹2.47 crore on moveable and immovable properties including other expenditur­es. “This was approximat­ely 130% (2.5 times) of his actual earnings of ₹1.07 crore during this period,” he added.

Investigat­ion has also shown that the accused purchased a plot at cost of ₹99.45 lakh in the name of his father-in-law and constructe­d a house on the same by spending another ₹74.6 lakh.

Ravinder has been booked in a disproport­ionate assets case and under sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act at the vigilance bureau police station, Bathinda.

PSPCL ENGINEER HELD FOR GRAFT IN MOGA

MOGA: Sleuths of the vigilance bureau arrested a junior engineer, Jaswant Singh, posted with the Punjab State Power Corporatio­n Limited (PSPCL) reportedly taking ₹2,000 in bribe. A farmer, Gurmail Singh of Fatehgarh Korotana village in Moga district, had complained that Jawant was asking for ₹7,00 bribe to replace two defunct electricit­y transforme­rs on his land.

The first instalment of this demand, ₹2,000. had already been paid. On Wednesday, the vigilance team laid a trap and arrested the JE, while taking another ₹2,000 from Gurmail.

The vigilance have registered a case under sections 7, 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act against the accused.
