DHARAMSHALA: Out of 3,000 government schools across Himachal, not a single student has passed Class-10 and Class-12 board examination in 55 government schools. According to a post result report by the HP Board of School Education (HPBOSE), 396 schools recorded a pass percentage of 25 or less.

There are 16 senior secondary schools and 39 high schools which recorded zero percent results. Of the schools which recorded pass percentage of 25% or below, 396 schools are senior secondary schools and while 305 are high schools. In Class-10, 1,09,678 students appeared, of which 25,518 flunked in examination. Meanwhile, in Class-12, of 98,281 students who appeared for examination, 13,875 failed.

HPBOSE has submitted the report to government. “We will try to find out the reason and appropriate action will be taken,” education minister Suresh Bhardwaj said. HPBOSE, headquartered at Dharamshala, declared Class-12 result on April 24 and Class-10 result on May 3.

HP education department seeks report of underperforming schools from the HPBOSE every year. Last year, students in 51 schools flunked board exams in 2017 results. Of which, 37 were high schools and 14 senior secondary. One reason stated for poor performance of government school education is usually low enrolment in government schools. Another reason given is the lack of infrastructure and staff crunch in the government schools.

As per official sources, government is contemplating transfer of principals and teachers who performed poor. Annual increment of teachers and school staff will be put on hold where pass percentage is 25 or below.

HP board secretary Harish Gajju said 994 senior secondary schools and 1,394 high schools have recorded result between 80-100 pass percentage.
