Cong MLA shoots off letter to Rahul, fires salvo at Channi
QUESTIONS TIMING OF CHANNI’S OBJECTION TO GOVT’S APPOINTMENTS TO OFFICE OF STATE ADVOCATE GENERAL
FEROZEPUR: Two-time Congress MLA Parminder Singh Pinki has shot off a letter to national chief of party Rahul Gandhi while training salvo against state cabinet minister Charanjit Singh Channi.
Channi had raked up the issue of Dalits not getting share in government appointments to the office of the state advocate general recently. “Both the timing and style are questionable with potential to damage party interests,” he said demanding Channi be sacked for violating party discipline.
“He went public on this sensitive issue in the context of the functioning of the state government on the eve of the crucial Shahkot assembly bypoll. Every election is crucial to the Congress, especially in the run up to 2019,” said Pinki.
“Channi has slammed the Congress for ignoring its core ideology regarding Dalits and alleged the party government is backtracking from the commitments made to the people in the election manifesto. This is atrocious,” he said in the letter.
“The Dalits are the most important section of society as well as the Congress. It is the Congress that has always been committed to the welfare of this section. The Congress has always been dedicated these sections not only at the level of sloganeering but assuring their equal status in society,” he said.
