Minor rape victim commits suicide in Chohtan

ON MAY 4, THE FAMILY MEMBERS HAD LEFT THE MINOR AT HOME WHEN TWO MEN KIDNAPPED HER AND THEN GANGRAPED HER

BARMER: A 17-year-old gangrape victim committed suicide by jumping into a water tank. The incident took place in Chohtan police station area of the district on May 6, but family members of the victim lodged a case in the matter on Monday, police said.

Giving a reason behind delay in filing of the case, the family members told the police that they were initially unaware about the reason behind the suicide. It was only after the victim’s younger sister told them about the victim’s gang rape, the family decided to approach the police, stated the complanain­ts.

On May 4, the family members had gone out of their home leaving the minor behind when two men, identified as Jitendra Jat and Ramaram Jat, kidnapped her, took to an insolated place and gang-raped, stated the complainan­ts. The accused allegedly threatened the victim not to reveal the fact to anyone or else they would kill her.

Unable to bear the trauma, the minor committed suicide by jumping into a water tank on May 6, they alleged.

The police have lodged a case under sections 363, 366, 376(D), 305 of the IPC and the POCSO Act and started investigat­ions. No arrest was made in the case till the last report came in.
