Vigilance inquiry ordered against Ggm MC ex-chief engineer
LOCAL BODIES MINISTER KAVITA JAIN SAYS CORRUPTION WILL NOT BE TOLERATED AND STERN ACTION WILL BE TAKEN AGAINST THE GUILTY
CHANDIGARH : Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar has ordered a vigilance inquiry against a former chief engineer of Gurugram municipal corporation (MC) in a case concerning purchase of ductile iron (DI) pipes worth Rs 30 crore, in violation of rules.
Urban local bodies minister Kavita Jain said the then senior deputy mayor Yashpal Batra had demanded an inquiry into the irregularities committed in the purchase of pipes in Gurugram municipal corporation.
The minister said a report submitted by the department revealed that the then chief engineer BS Singroha committed large-scale irregularities in the purchase process which resulted in loss to the Gurugram municipal corporation.
Keeping in view the seriousness of the matter, a proposal was sent to the chief minister Manohar Lal Khattarto get the case investigated from the state vigilance bureau.
Jain said that after the complaint made by the senior deputy mayor, a report was prepared under which it was found that during 2010-14, ductile iron pipes worth Rs 30 crore were purchased in contravention of rules.
The minister said corruption would not be tolerated and that stern action would be taken against the guilty.
The minister urged the people of the state to monitor the development works being undertaken in the municipalities so that public money could be utilised in a transparent and proper manner.
