Vigilance inquiry ordered against Ggm MC ex-chief engineer

CHANDIGARH : Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar has ordered a vigilance inquiry against a former chief engineer of Gurugram municipal corporatio­n (MC) in a case concerning purchase of ductile iron (DI) pipes worth Rs 30 crore, in violation of rules.

Urban local bodies minister Kavita Jain said the then senior deputy mayor Yashpal Batra had demanded an inquiry into the irregulari­ties committed in the purchase of pipes in Gurugram municipal corporatio­n.

The minister said a report submitted by the department revealed that the then chief engineer BS Singroha committed large-scale irregulari­ties in the purchase process which resulted in loss to the Gurugram municipal corporatio­n.

Keeping in view the seriousnes­s of the matter, a proposal was sent to the chief minister Manohar Lal Khattarto get the case investigat­ed from the state vigilance bureau.

Jain said that after the complaint made by the senior deputy mayor, a report was prepared under which it was found that during 2010-14, ductile iron pipes worth Rs 30 crore were purchased in contravent­ion of rules.

The minister said corruption would not be tolerated and that stern action would be taken against the guilty.

The minister urged the people of the state to monitor the developmen­t works being undertaken in the municipali­ties so that public money could be utilised in a transparen­t and proper manner.
