KRISHNA MURARI IS NEW HC CHIEF JUSTICE
CHANDIGARH: The Centre on Thursday notified name of justice Krishna Murari as the Punjab and Haryana high court chief justice. He is the second senior-most judge at the Allahabad high court. Murari’s appointment was cleared by the President on Thursday. The
Supreme Court collegium had recommended his name to central government on April
19. He will replace chief justice SJ Vazifdar, who retired on
May 3. Justice AK
Mittal is acting chief justice at the high court these days. Born in 1958, justice Murari became additional judge of the Allahabad HC on January 7, 2004, and a permanent judge on August 18, 2005. He retires in July 2020. He likely to take the oath of office either on Saturday or early next week, sources said. With his appointment, the number of judges at the HC will go up to 50 against the sanctioned strength of 85. Two of the senior-most judges justice AK Mittal and justice Surya Kant are awaiting
transfers.
