POLITICALLY INSPIRED INDUSTRIAL POLICIES

-

Tamil Nadu government’s decision to cancel land allocation to Sterlite is a matter of grave concern for the country. This is a political decision that will have a cascading effect on not only a few thousand jobs, but also on electrification projects, both in the state and in the country. The plant was also manufacturing sulphuric acid as an input for fertiliser industries which may now face shortage of raw materials. Polluting plants must be heavily penalised, but knee-jerk decisions serve no purpose. Hopefully, is aware of the case of West Bengal, where industrial development has gone downhill since the Tatas were not allowed to set up a Nano plant.
