NOIDA: A 45-year-old Noida police constable was grievously injured on Thursday when a speeding car hit him near the toll plaza on the Delhi-noida-delhi Flyway.

Pushpender Singh sustained multiple fractures in his legs after the Hyundai Eon crashed into him when a patrol signalled the car to stop at the check post ahead of the toll plaza. The driver fled after the accident.

“The incident took place around 1.20am on Thursday... It was a routine checking exercise. Singh signalled a Hyundai Eon car to stop but, the driver ran the vehicle over the constable, injuring him grievously,” said Manish Kumar Saxena, station house officer, Sector 20 police station.

Singh was rushed to Kailash Hospital in Sector 27 where has been kept at the intensive care unit.

Police are now scanning CCTV camera footage for leads.

“A case has been registered against unknown persons under the Indian Penal Code sections 279 and 338 — rash driving and causing grievous injury to a person. Soon, we will arrest the accused,” Saxena said.
