Sandhu said the university has been recognised as a fastemerging university in the country and the ministry has decided to help it in a big way to make it one of the leading institutions of the country. He claimed that the university is the only university in the country to have been granted this much amount for upgrading its infrastructure.

“This money is supposed to be spent in two years and we have divided it for different projects on the campus,” he said.

The V-C said, “A sum of ₹8 crore will be spent on construction of new laboratories, ₹7 crore on a lecture theatre, ₹9.54 crore on installing LED lights across the campus, ₹ 7.87 crore on the construction of washrooms, ₹ 6.48 crore on furnishing classrooms, ₹ 21 crore on upgrading existing laboratories and ₹9 crore on providing needed equipment to students.” The remaining amount, the V-C said, will be spent on revamping the academic block, administration block, upgrading sewerage system, construction of an open air theatre, rainwater harvesting, solid waste management, upgrading hostels, installation of elevators in the library, renovation of auditoriums, wire system, renovation of playgrounds, developing e-resources, digitisation of the library etc.

GNDU TO HAVE INCUBATION CENTRE

As per the announcement made by minister of human resource development Prakash Javadekar, an Incubation centre will be established at the university shortly to cater to the needs of new startup companies.

A business incubator is a programme managed by corporations, educational institutions or government agencies that provide an environment for startups to develop by providing services such as management training and office space. Startup incubators are usually non-profit organisations. The terms “incubator” or “incubation centre” are interchangeably used for a collaborative environment designed to help new startups succeed.
