MOKHRA (ROHTAK): Controversial BJP MP Raj Kumar Saini was on Monday evening not allowed to attend an event at Mokhra village in Rohtak amid fears of clash.

Saini, who had been vocal of his stand against reservation for Jat community, faced a stiff opposition from the residents of this Jat-dominated village, which is also the native of Olympic bronze medallist Sakshi Malik.

Saini was invited as the chief guest of a public meeting organised by members of a backward community in Mokhra village on Monday evening.

However, as Jats raised the pitch to not let him enter the village, the district police and administration decided to cancel the event as they feared the possibility of any untoward incident. Heavy security was deployed in the village. village.

“This is the murder of democracy. The administration and police could not control unruly people, but stopped an MP from attending an event. The event organisers are waiting for me, but I’m not allowed to enter,” Saini said.

The MP demanded either he be allowed to enter the village or the event organisers called outside the village to meet him.

Following that, the organisers were called to meet him and he lifted his dharna.

Rohtak superintendent of police (SP) Jashandeep Singh Randhawa said two organisations, one led by Jats and the other by supporters of Saini community, had planned parallel programmes in the village and both of these were denied permission.

While leaving, Saini without naming anyone, said protest against him was politically motivated and organised by people who could not see member of any other caste becoming a chief minster.

The MP, who has been sidelined from the party, had recently announced to float a new political outfit and fight elections in 2019, but still has not resigned from the BJP.

Earlier in the day, Jat leader Yashpal Malik had slammed the government over Saini’s event.

“It is the government’s trick to create tension. If the government wanted, it could have asked the MP not to go where he is not welcomed. But it wants to create such disturbance,” he remarked.

The Jat leader further announced they will start holding ‘Bhaichara Sammelan’ from July 28 in villages across Haryana to gather support of Dalits to fight the government.
