Two women arrested for killing farmer at Dinanagar

GURDASPUR : The police on Monday claimed to have solved the murder case of a farmer, Gurmit Singh, of Gulelra village under the Dinanagar police station and arrested two women for his murder. One male accused has already committed suicide.

SSP Harcharan Singh Bhullar said that Amandeep Kaur of Gulelra had reported to the police on April 9 that her father Gurmit Singh had gone to his fields for work on April 7, but did not return home after that.

On her complaint, police had registered a case under sections 365 of the IPC against Mehanga Singh and Kuldeep Singh alias Kaka,residents of Gulelra, at the Dinanagar police station. The SSP said fearing arrest, Mehanga committed suicide by hanging himself from a fan at his home in Gulelra on April 25.

Then the case took a new turn and, on the basis of the suicide note, left by Mehanga Singh,his son got a case registered under section 306 of the IPC against Amandeep Kaur and seven others for allegedly abetting Mehanga Singh’s suicide at Dinanagar police station on April 26. Deputy superinten­dent of police Manoj Kumar investigat­ed the case and found that Gurmit Singh was killed by Mehanga Singh, his wife Mandeep Kaur, both residents of Gulelra and one Rama Kumari of Lange village and they had dumped his body in a drain after putting it in a jute bag.

A case under Sections 302,201 and 120-B of the IPC has been registered against the two accused women,who have also been arrested,(while the third accused Mehnga Singh has already committed suicide) at the police station, Dinanagar. The body of Gurmit Singh has been recovered from the drain.
