LAMBRA VILLAGE SARPANCH MURDERED

HOSHIARPUR : Lambra village sarpanch Davinder Singh, 45, was allegedly hacked to death by a fellow villager, identified as Jagmohan Singh, on Monday.

Harjinder Singh, the victim’s brother, told the police that it seemed that Jagmohan nursed a grudge against his brother and used to often fight with my him over one thing or the other.

He said recently, a eucalyptus tree, uprooted in a storm, and fallen in the residential premises of the accused. So he was urging the sarpanch to see the spot to assess the damage and make arrangements to remove the tree. But, the sarpanch did not visit.

“Last evening, around 7.30pm, when Davinder was passing by the flour mill, Jagmohan, who was drunk, attacked him with a spade,” said Harjinder.

The sarpanch, who was seriously injured, was taken to a hospital where he died. After a postmortem, the body was handed over to the kin.

A murder case has been registered against Jagmohan Singh at the Bulhowal police station. The accused is absconding.
