LAMBRA VILLAGE SARPANCH MURDERED

HOSHIARPUR : Lambra village sarpanch Davinder Singh, 45, was allegedly hacked to death by a fellow villager, identified as Jagmohan Singh, on Monday.

Harjinder Singh, the victim’s brother, told the police that it seemed that Jagmohan nursed a grudge against his brother and used to often fight with my him over one thing or the other.

He said recently, a eucalyptus tree, uprooted in a storm, and fallen in the residentia­l premises of the accused. So he was urging the sarpanch to see the spot to assess the damage and make arrangemen­ts to remove the tree. But, the sarpanch did not visit.

“Last evening, around 7.30pm, when Davinder was passing by the flour mill, Jagmohan, who was drunk, attacked him with a spade,” said Harjinder.

The sarpanch, who was seriously injured, was taken to a hospital where he died. After a postmortem, the body was handed over to the kin.

A murder case has been registered against Jagmohan Singh at the Bulhowal police station. The accused is absconding.
