NOIDA: A 20-year-old Delhi University student who was abducted by two men from near Noida sector 50 on Sunday midnight managed to save herself by jumping out of the moving car near a police check post and was rescued.

The victim, a Delhi University student who was heading home in a cab with a friend after dinner, said the incident took place around 11.45pm on Sunday.

The two men were later arrested by the police.

“The incident took place when we were returning home after dinner. Near the U-turn of Sector 50, our cab was intercepted by a Swift Dzire. Two men immediately got out of the other car and one of them pulled out the driver and started slapping him. We thought that they had a personal rivalry and we tried to leave the cab but we were stopped by the other man,” said the girl.

She said that one of the men then got in the driver’s seat of the cab and pushed the driver into the co-passenger’s seat and started driving towards Sector 104. His accomplice followed in the second car.

“When we tried calling the police, he snatched away our phones. He kept on saying that we were involved with a call girl racket and he will report us to the police and expose us. While he was driving, I saw a police van on the other side of the road and jumped out of the moving car. I then shouted for help,” said the girl, who is a Political Science (honours) student at DU.

Police said the girl jumped out of the car near a police outpost in Sector 98.

“When the policemen heard the girl shouting, they rushed to the spot. The accused, meanwhile, tried to flee with the girl’s friend still in the car. However, they were nabbed after a chase and the boy and the driver were rescued,” said Anil Kumar Shai, station house officer, sector 39 police station.

Shai said that both the arrested men are pimps.

“They were not working for anyone. They were dealing with a call girl with whom they had a disagreement over money. According to their statement, she was travelling in a cab and the duo was following her.

They lost sight of the car and accidentally started following the cab in which the girl and her friend were travelling,” said the SHO.

A case of abduction and wrongful confinement (sections 364 and 342 of the Indian Penal Code) was registered against the two on Monday, following which they were produced before a magistrate and later sent to jail.
