CBI plea against Marans’ acquittal
CHENNAI: The CBI on Tuesday filed an appeal in the Madras high court against the acquittal of the Maran brothers in the illegal BSNL telephone exchange case. The appeal comes as a setback to the DMK first family, with the Lok Sabha polls months away.
The appeal challenges the trial court order issued by justice S Natarajan, which discharged Dayanidhi Maran and his brother Kalanithi Maran, who owns the popular Sun TV group.
In his order, the judge ruled that the prosecution failed to prove the case. The Central Bureau of Investigation, in its petition, had alleged that the government lost ₹1.78 crore in revenue to the Sun TV group.
